EBA@EBAday

During EBAday 2025, we filmed a series of interviews with colleagues and chairs of our expert and working groups. They shared their take on our ongoing activities and deliverables in the areas of instant payments, fraud fighting, liquidity management and cross-border payments.

Interview with Krister Billing

Upcoming regulatory developments in Europe, including the implementation of the Instant Payments Regulation (IPR) and Basel III, have the potential to reshape the liquidity management landscape. We spoke with Krister Billing, responsible for market infrastructure engagement and regulatory affairs at SEB, Deputy Chairperson of the EBA Board and Chair of the EBA Liquidity Management Working Group, to understand how banks can prepare for the upcoming changes.

Interview with Simon McConnell

The EPC’s One-Leg Out (OLO) Instant Credit Transfer (OCT Inst) scheme supports real-time cross-border payments – offering strong potential in helping the industry meet the G20 Roadmap targets for cross-border payments. While adoption has been limited to date, momentum is building. With multiple forces aligning – including the launch of the EBA CLEARING’s RT1 OCT Inst Service – the scheme is poised for broader uptake in the coming year.

We spoke to Simon McConnell, Head of European Clearing and & FI Payments at Citi and Chair of the EBA Expert Group on Cross-Border Payments, about why now is a good time to prepare for OCT Inst – and what practical steps banks can take to get ready.

Interview with Serge Wagener

We spoke with Serge Wagener, Vice President & Head of Business Unit Daily Banking at Spuerkeess, member of the EBA Board and Chair of the EBA Practitioners Group on Instant Payments to hear his perspective on industry readiness ahead of the upcoming Instant Payments Regulation milestone in October – and the pivotal role the EBA Practitioners Group on Instant Payments is playing in supporting that journey.

Interview with Bruno Mellado

As an industry, coming together in person is often the most effective way to foster collaboration and find solutions to common issues.

This year, of course, we find ourselves in the EBA's home city of Paris for the 20th edition of EBAday. We spoke with Bruno Mellado, Global Head of Payments and Receivables at BNP Paribas about why progress in payments – and banking more generally – is so often rooted in community initiatives, and why cooperation at the EBA level matters.

Interview with Annick Moes

As fraudsters grow increasingly sophisticated, the varied terminology used to describe fraud events only adds to an already complex landscape. The EBA Fraud Taxonomy helps cut through this complexity by aligning fraud experts with a common language and categorisation approach – making data not only more comparable across institutions, but also granular and actionable.

As European regulators lay the groundwork for fraud intelligence and data-sharing initiatives, the taxonomy offers a strong foundation for future collaboration. We spoke to EBA’s Annick Moes on why now is a good time for implementation.

Interview with Thomas Egner

The payments ecosystem will always need a reliable, steadfast townhall where challenges can be hashed out and solutions identified. This is exactly the role of the EBA: to connect payments professionals from across Europe to analyse common challenges, share knowledge and identify solutions.

In celebration of the Association’s 40th birthday, we spoke with Thomas Egner, the EBA’s Secretary General, to discuss the Association’s past, present, and future role in breaking down silos, forging connections and fostering collaboration.
